Trevor Kobrin

Trevor Kobrin was born in the town of Benoni, just outside Johannesburg, South Africa, and studied photography at the Art School of Tshwane University of Technology, winning numerous awards and competitions as a student. He then traveled Europe assisting several distinguished European and English photographers, where his appreciation for art, photography, and other cultures expanded, and deeply influenced his current approach and technique.

Returning to Johannesburg after four years in Europe, Trevor focused on a career in editorial and advertising photography. He won several prestigious photographic awards including the Fuji Profoto, Ilford Profoto, and Grand Prix in South Africa‚Äôs premiere advertising award, “The Loerie Awards” for an African Aids Awareness Campaign. In 2009 he won a Silver Award in America's largest advertising award, the Addy Awards, a Gold award in the South West Regionals, and a Silver Award in the National finals.

His photographs have appeared in international publications: Elle, Marie Claire, Schweitzer Illustrierte, Readers Digest, and major South African magazines. He has worked with several prominent advertising agencies: McCann Erickson, Ogilvy's, BBDO and Leo Burnett, on their local and international accounts. Clients and Campaigns include McDonald's, Fanta, Coca Cola, Life Line. He has photographically captured world renowned figures such as South African President Mbeki; Jimmy Carter for Habitat for Humanity; Viscount Lindley, the son of Princess Margaret; international literary author Bryce Courtney, musicians Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and many others.

Since arriving in Dallas, Texas in mid 2002, he has photographed for D Magazine, D Home, Dallas Design Book, Cottages and Bungalows, and other publications and advertising agencies. He was commissioned to do portraits of heart attack survivors for the American Heart Association.

He continues to work with and support many humanitarian organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, Reach for a Dream, Big Thought, and was the main photographer for the non-profit organization, PEP. His work has been exhibited in Johannesburg, South Africa at the Little Louvre Gallery in 2001, and at the Canvas Gallery in Dallas.
